Northern VA Studio Photographer- This first year session was extra special because this mama is using these photos for her pregnancy announcement! I am always honored to be a part of such big life moments, and what’s better than celebrating with a studio session? 

We played a lot throughout this session, following behind this fun and energetic one-year-old. Birthday portraits are such an amazing time to cherish your family, and of course celebrating your little one turning one is huge! Something I’ve learned over the years is to keep neutral toys in the studio so they can play as they would at home. The key is capturing organic playful moments instead of forcing smiles. 

My studio is my haven, and one of the best parts about it is the window seat. The space itself is neutral and white so the historic wood-paneled room pops in every photo. That window seat is just a magical component to the space. I love how it faces the gorgeous stone patio and outdoor area with its beautiful evergreens and stone fencing. 

Mama wore a stunning dress by Free People that’s available in the studio wardrobe. Neutrals with a pattern are always a good choice to keep your session styling classic and timeless. The Zara onesie we chose was perfect– cute but still functional and not restrictive of his play. Mama’s gorgeous makeup was done by makeup by Sue.
